GÜBELIN GEM LAB SIMPLIFIES CLARITY ENHANCEMENT CLASSIFICATION FOR EMERALDS

Dear Clients

The Gübelin Gem Lab is pleased to announce an update on its classification system for the clarity enhancement of emeralds. Effective 1st of November 2025, the category “insignificant” will be discontinued on Gübelin Gem Lab reports. Emeralds that were previously described as showing “indications of insignificant clarity enhancement” will henceforth be classified as showing “No indications of clarity enhancement”.

This adjustment is made to harmonise the terminology on Gübelin Gem Lab reports with those of other major gemmological laboratories, particularly within the Laboratory Manual Harmonisation Committee (LMHC), of which Gübelin Gem Lab is a member.

By aligning our system with other LMHC laboratories, we aim to increase consistency across the global gemstone trade, supporting transparent communication and comparability between reports issued by different gem labs.

The Gübelin Gem Lab remains committed to maintaining the highest levels of scientific rigour, reliability, and transparency in all its activities.
